Abu Dhabi, UAE May 7 2018 The “Beirut Institute” Summit Edition II, will convene on May 12 and 13, 2018, gathering over 200 high-level international leaders, personalities, political experts, thinkers and policy makers from the UAE, the Arab region, the United States of America, Europe, Russia, China, Latin America and Africa, as well as civil society leaders from both the public and private sectors and young leaders from Abu Dhabi, giving them the opportunity to discuss, exchange and issue constructive strategic recommendations that will enhance the state building process and impact the Arab region and its position in the international landscape.
The Second “Beirut Institute” Summit entitled Constructing the Arab Region’s Engagement in the Emerging Global Future will meet at the St Regis Hotel in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates in the presence of senior and prominent policy makers and dignitaries such as H.E Ahmed Aboul-Gheit Secretary-General of the Arab League, H.E. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani Secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), H.E. Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa Bahrain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development for the United Arab Emirates.
Also participating in the summit will be H.E Nohad El Machnouk, Lebanese Minister of Interior and Municipalities, General (Ret) David H. Petraeus former Director of the CIA and chairman of the KKR Global Institute, H.E. Amr Moussa former Secretary-General of the Arab League, H.E. Elias Bou Saab Advisor to the President of Lebanon Michel Aoun on International Cooperation, Mahmoud Jibril interim Prime Minister of Libya and prominent American journalist columnist for The Washington Post American, David Ignatius.
This year’s summit aims at discussing the changes facing the region with Arab and international leaders, and inspire policies, ideas, solutions and enhanced decisions on ways to construct a brighter future for the current and future generations.
Through thirteen open and five closed sessions, the summit will focus on the future of the region in the light of key international changes, and will examine the role of Arab governments in laying the foundations of a future phase that will give them the opportunity to better impact the making of the global future.
Raghida Dergham, Founder and Executive Chairman of Beirut Institute praised “the partaking of prominent figures and leaders of the region and the world in the summit, demonstrating its prominence as a trusted platform capable of initiating the debate and recommending efficient frameworks that contribute to the making of the region”. Dergham also added that “the decision of the United Arab Emirates to host this summit proves the prominent role of Abu Dhabi in supporting growth and prosperity in the region and globally. Beirut Institute, concluded Dergham “has already shown its potential as a catalyst for dynamic change, and as an independent and non-partisan think tank for the Arab region with global reach. This timely and imperative summit is hence taking the lead in contemplating the future of the Arab region, locally and globally”.
From his part, HRH Prince Turki Al Faisal, Chairman of King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies, Member of the Board of Directors of the Beirut Institute, described the Beirut Institute as “a group of thinkers that look at the Arab world with a discerning eye, an open mind, and a heart full of advice”.
For his part, HE Marwan Kheireddine, Chairman and General Manager, Al Mawarid Bank, Former Lebanese Minister of State, Member of the Board of Directors of Beirut Institute, stated that “Interacting with global thought leaders at Beirut Institute Summit is an opportunity to scrutinize how to engage the Arab region with the future constructively”. “The actionable recommendations that emerge from such collective thinking” Kheireddine said, “give the institute a unique added value. We thank Abu Dhabi for hosting the second edition of Beirut Institute Summit and for giving us such boost and confidence.”
