Renowned name in tableware, gifting and home décor, Au Gant Rouge, will be celebrating its 150th anniversary on November 9th in the presence of Mr. Bertrand Raynaud, president of Raynaud Limoges porcelains. A ravishing party will be held for the event in the store’s flagship in Downtown. Au Gant Rouge first opened in Beirut’s Souk El Tawile in 1867. Since then, it has only refined its identity and offering to present its customers with nothing but eclectic pieces. In fact, it has now expanded to two branches, Ashrafieh and Downtown, both in the beating heart of the capital. Even more so, the brands sold at Au Gant Rouge speak for themselves and for the caliber of Au Gant Rouge itself. These brands include Ercuis, which also happens to be celebrating it’s 150-year anniversary, Raynaud Limoges, Puiforcat, Picasso, Val Saint Lambert, J Seignolles, to name a few. Today, 150 years later and with an experience that spans across 5 generations, Au Gant Rouge steps into a new era of prestige and quality. Maintaining the same criteria for choosing everything from the finest porcelain of Limoges, to silver-plated items, beautiful crystal pieces, and refined gifts, Au Gant Rouge has adapted to the changes in the industry during the century and the half it has operated and will continue to do so. As part of the celebration, Au Gant Rouge collaborated with distinguished Lebanese designer Rabih Kayrouz who designed his own exclusive tableware collection with esteemed porcelain plate manufacturer, Raynaud Limoges. The concept’s collection comes to venerate Kayrouz’s relationship with Beirut. The designer who’s a passionate lover of the city screams at it “Beirut, ya Beirut” wondering what it has done to him. It’s the love/hate relations that characterizes every passionate couple. That’s not all, international award-winning interior designer Gregory Gatserelia had his own take on what should be done to celebrate the milestone in the shops’ window displays. Thriving in and with Beirut for 150 years intertwined Au Gant Rouge’s history with the capital’s, which is why the 150-year anniversary not only celebrates Au Gant Rouge but a lso Beirut, its vibrance, its contradictions and its beauty. Granted, Gatserelia came up with the idea of asking established Lebanese artists from different disciplines to design a plate paying tribute to a Lebanese figure who had a particular impact on them. The interior designer envisioned the plates held with Au Gant Rouge’s emblem, the red glove, which he sketched himself. As such, the intellectuals of today would be commemorating the intellectuals that shaped the cultural scene of the city for the past 150 years. The talented artists that have intricately worked on the bespoke plates are Sacha Abou Khalil, Marie Achkar, Kareen Andraos asli, Vladimir Antaki, Salim Azzam, Anwar Azzi, Carla Baz, Roula Bazerji, Bokja, Ramy Boutros, Marine Bustros, Karim Chaya for spockdesign, Doreen El Zein, Gregory Gatserelia, Rabih Geha – RG/ARCHITECTS, Paul Guiragossian, Joy Herro, Anis Jizi, Rami Kadi Maison de Couture, Charles Khoury, Milia M, Marylynn Massoud, Hala Matta, Sahar Minkara, Georges Mohasseb, Rouba Mourtada, Selim Mouzannar, Marie Munier, Raymond Nawar, Hania Rayess, Rana Salam Studio, Karma Salman, Sarah’s Bag, Lina Shamma, Karina Sukar, Eva Szumilas, Katya Trabulsy, Wissam Yafawi. In a nutshell, Au Gant Rouge has been part of the Beiruti, Lebanese even, heritage for decades. Its intent to marry this heritage with more modern practices speaks lengths of its artistic discourse and vision.
