During a ceremony held at the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (ALBA), the organizing committee of Beirut Art Film Festival (BAFF) awarded the First and the Second Prizes for the best visual concept to
Kay Samaha & Lynn Hadid – 1st Prize (1000 USD)
Caroline Khoury – 2nd Prize (500 USD)
The idea to launch a competition for third year advertising design students at ALBA has come from Alain Brenas, director of the École de Cinéma et de Réalisation Audiovisuelle, via the BAFF committee: Alice Mogabgab Karam, Maria Chakhtoura and Nadine Mokdessi, who have all wanted to give the students this opportunity and thereby encourage them to work with subjects that are important to them, and through which they are able to express their sensibility and their visions of art.
As Nadine Mokdessi, drama professor at the ALBA and member of the BAFF Honorary committee pointed out: “The selection process was difficult and the notion that a 21 year old student can create the visual concept for the communication campaign of an artistic festival is indeed a true recognition of this young person and, through this, a promotion of Lebanese creativity.”
The competition jury is composed of Maria Chakhtoura, Nadine Mokdessi, Alice Mogabgab, Alain Brenas and Lena Bonja in the presence of André Bekhazi, Dean of ALBA.
This first artistic adventure with ALBA is the beginning of the collaboration between Beirut Art Film Festival and advertising design students. In 2018, the competition will be open to all universities in Lebanon.
The Beirut Art Film Festival will take place from 8 to 25 November 2017 all over Lebanon. The program for the BAFF Intramuros Days, at the Metropolis-Empire-Sofil 15 – 19 November, will be available from 4 September 2017. The program of the BAFF Extramuros Days, to take place from 8 to 25 November at universities, schools and regional cultural centres will be announced on 24 October, during BAFF Press conference at Metropolis Empire Sofil.
