Photomed Liban awarded the Portfolio Reading Prize for 2017 to Elias Moubarak, director and photographer; with the support of LIA Insurance.
Rami Haddad, assistant general manager at LIA Insurance, said: “We are proud to support Photomed Liban and this prize as we believe in the young talents of tomorrow and our aim is to give them the opportunity to showcase their work.”
The prize gives the winner the opportunity to publish a monograph. The published work will be a selection of photos from the portfolio that was presented by Elias Moubarak to the jury during the Festival. The jury included Philippe Heullant, president of Photomed Liban, Guillaume de Sardes, artistic director of Photomed Liban and Richard Dumas, photographer. The portfolio readings were held at Byblos Bank headquarters.
According to Guillaume de Sardes, artistic director of Photomed Liban: “Photomed rewards this year a creative work characterized by poetry and humor. The series is about the enchanted life of a stranger that we would all have wanted to live.”
Holder of a Degree in Communication Arts from the Lebanese American University, Elias Moubarak directs short series and short documentaries. He also dedicates himself to photography and particularly street photography where his photographs reflect the effect of time on man, and the stories to retain from everyday encounters on the streets. His first exhibition was titled Rust Never Sleeps.
In his new series, he intends to share the manipulated story of a man through old photographs bought from the flea market.
Photomed Liban is co-organized by the Lebanese Tourism Office in Paris. Byblos Bank is the main partner of the Festival.
