The Old Souk came together to celebrate the arrival of the 3 Kings. Wise men, women and children gathered to enjoy a treasure hunt around this truly unique corner of Lebanon, by seeking the Epiphany ‘star’ – a trail laid out by local businesses.
Eleven independent retailers, restaurants and artisans opened their doors to entertain and educate the hunters as they followed the clues, riddles and challenges set for them at each location. Even the olive tree in EddéYard offered conundrums hanging from its branches.
It was a clear, bright day, which drew both young and old from as far and wide as Russia to the ancient streets for some cultural fun. Wearing paper crowns, they discovered herbs at Eddé’s Herbs and books at Gibran’s Lebanon, marveled at Danielle and Yara’s skills in embroidery at Ebre W Kheit, admired Amo Mitri’s handmade tablecloths, delighted in Pierre’s fossil collection, learnt about local honey with Fadi at Via Appia and saw Reynaldo, the artist, who generously gave away his Christmas ornaments to participants.
The day of discovery ended back at the Alice Eddé boutique where the scores for correct answers were added up, whilst the participants enjoyed star-shaped ‘Befanini’ – Italian Epiphany cookies – and mulled wine as the sun set on the Souk.
