NCLW, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces (ISF), has been regularly monitoring calls received on Hotline 1745 reporting complaints about domestic violence. ISF reports show a marked increase of 51% in the number of incoming calls from Feb. 1, 2020 to Oct.1, 2020, i.e. since the beginning of the outbreak of Covid 19-Pandemic crisis.
The said ISF reports also show a large increase of 242% in calls reporting domestic violence perpetrated against children received on the said hotline during the above-mentioned period.
Given these disturbing facts, NCLW once again sounds the alarm and calls upon MPs to exert their best efforts to limit the increase in the number of domestic violence crimes and ensure the effective protection of the victim and her children. Accordingly, NCLW urges MPs to adopt, as soon as possible, the proposed amendments to the law on “Protection of Women and Other family members against Domestic Violence”.
