The Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL) announced that its ambassador, former Miss USA, Mrs. Rima Fakih, and her husband, Mr. Wassim Slaiby, transferred $260,000 to the center in just 30 days after the Beirut blast, as the outcome of the Global Aid for Lebanon fundraising campaign that they organized for the benefit of Lebanon, indicating that 5 of the children with cancer who are treated at the center with no cost on their parents will benefit from this support.
CCCL issued a statement saying: “When we took it under our responsibility to support all kids with cancer in Lebanon regardless of what hospital they are at, we didn’t have the funds to do so. What we had was faith. We believed that no child should be affected in their treatment because their hospital has been damaged, and we believed our supporters will be committed as well. Our call on faith was answered first by Rima and Sal through Global Aid for Lebanon.
The center thanked Fakih and Slaiby for “their immediate response that came directly from the heart.” They also thanked The Weekend “for his huge donation and many more beautiful souls for being by its (our) side in times of crisis.”
The center added: “When crisis hits, family members lean on each other. Today, we leaned on Rima and Sal and they were the supporting shoulder we needed to stand up again and stand for our kids.”
CCCL also had a message to Fakih: “Rima, our lovely Ambassador, once again your devotion highlights how much you are connected to our mission and dedicated to taking it to new horizons. After the Beirut blast, you have been the axis of the Lebanese diaspora. You have always stood up and stood out.”
CCCL is a regionally leading center that treats kids with cancer from age zero till the age of 18 with no cost to their parents. Since its inauguration in 2002, the center has treated more than 2,040 kids and has provided more than 5,000 free consultations, with an average cure rate of 80%.
