Your overall fitness level can be determined by knowing your level of performance in the five components of physical fitness
The five components of physical fitness:
- Muscular Strength
It is the amount of force your muscles produce to lift and carry objects
The way to increase strength is to train with weights
- Cardiovascular Endurance
It is the ability of your heart, lungs and vessels to provide your body with the oxygen needed by your muscles for extended periods
To improve your cardiovascular endurance you can do jogging, cycling and swimming
- Muscular Endurance
It is the ability of the muscles to perform continuously without fatiguing
To improve your muscular endurance you can exercise on step and elliptical machines
- Flexibility
It is one of the most important, yet often overlooked
It is the ability of your body’s various joints to move through a wide range of motions, while your muscles can stretch and lengthen
- Body Fat Composition
It is the amount of stored body fat compared to lean muscle mass, water and bone mass in your body
To qualify as fit:
- Men must have a body fat composition lower than 17% while women must have it lower than 24%.
