The Governor of Banque du Liban, Mr. Riad Salamé, met in London his British counterpart, Governor Mark Carney.
Key issues were tackled concerning the Lebanese banking sector, any party dealing with this sector, as well as Lebanese customers, with a special focus on facilitating Lebanese customers’ dealings with international banks, and consolidating Lebanese banks operating in London, given the integration of Lebanon and the Lebanese banks in the financial globalization.
Governor Salamé highlighted the latest developments in Lebanon, particularly the enactment of laws pursuant to which Lebanon complies with all the legal and implementation requirements in terms of fighting money laundering and terrorist financing, as asserted by the FATF (Financial Action task Force) in its plenary meeting in Paris, in February 2016.
Following their promising discussions, both Governors agreed to hold further meetings.
