The 2nd Ministerial Conference on Environment and Climate Action advocates accelerating the transition to sustainable, climate-neutral and green economies
Barcelona, October 5th, 2021.- Ministers from the 42 member countries of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) have recognized PRIMA’s role in promoting cooperation and scientific research in facing climate change at their 2nd Ministerial Conference on Environment and Climate Action held yesterday in Cairo, Egypt.
The UfM ministers, meeting under the co-chairmanship of the Jordan Minister of Environment and the first Vicepresident of the European Commission, agreed on a common agenda to intensify efforts in the Euro-Mediterranean region. The agenda urgently addresses the climate and environmental challenges faced in the region. This commitment reflects the highest possible ambition in accelerating the transition to sustainable, climate-neutral and green economies.
The adopted declaration underlines the need to “enhance cooperation and research in areas of common interest on climate action and the environment, fostering innovation for the development and transfer of low greenhouse gas emitting technologies and strengthening the science-society-policy nexus for environmental and climate governance, including through continued support to the MedECC network and other relevant initiatives such as PRIMA (Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean).”
