Beirut, Lebanon – 19 November 2025– The Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Nizar Hani, and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Representative in Lebanon Nora Ourabah Haddad have signed agreements for two new projects aimed at strengthening Lebanon’s agricultural sector through institutional reform and environmental protection.
The first project, “Strengthening Institutional Governance: A Two-Year Initiative for Institutional Reform and Capacity Building of the Ministry of Agriculture,” seeks to advance Lebanon’s broader public sector modernization agenda by enhancing the Ministry’s institutional framework and capacities. Implemented by FAO in close coordination with the Ministry, the project will enhance the Ministry’s ability to effectively manage and implement agricultural policies, programmes, and services, thereby contributing to sustainable agricultural development, food security, and rural economic growth.
The second project addresses a critical environmental and public health issue. Following a formal request from the Ministry, FAO will support the safe disposal of obsolete pesticide stocks, including both previously packaged and newly identified hazardous chemicals. Building on the outcomes of a previous FAO initiative, this project aims to ensure the environmentally sound management and disposal of these stocks, reducing risks to human health and the environment in Lebanon.
These initiatives reflect the strategic dimension of the partnership between Lebanon and FAO to promote sustainable, safe, and innovative agricultural practices while enhancing the Ministry’s capacity to respond effectively to the evolving challenges of the sector.
