Under the patronage of HE Minister of Energy and Water Mrs. Nada Bustani Khoury represented by Dean Dr. Joseph Al-Assad and in the presence of MPs Cesar Abi Khalil, Talal Arslan represented by Mr. Naji Shmeit and Anis Nassar and in the presence of the Maqam Bader Zeidan, the Don Bosco Cultural Center opened 250 PV street light installed during the first year of the Green Energy and Sustainable Development project (ESSK) (AID 11478) in the town of Kahale on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 7:30 pm. The project was implemented in cooperation with VIDES Italy, the Municipality of Kahale and the Municipality of Araya and funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs represented by the Italian Agency for Development and Cooperation.
The ceremony was inaugurated by the Lebanese national anthem, followed by the speech of the Mayor of Kahale, Engineer Jean Bejjani on the importance of the presence of associations and donations for the development of our society, and then the speech of the mayor of Araya, Mr. Pierre Bejjani on the importance of this project and the promise of continuity. Followed by the speech of the Chairman of Don Bosco Cultural Centre Board and the Project Director Mr. Abboud Bejjani, where he talked about the stages of implementation of the project and its positive impact on the environment. The ceremony also included the distribution of certificates to the students of the photovoltaic systems course, which was carried out in cooperation with the American Lebanese Language Center and the SMEs Empowerment for Women course, which was carried out in cooperation with the Lebanese Commercial Bank, represented by Ms. Nancy Sayegh, director of SMEs who spoke about the importance of the presence of women in our society. In addition, awards were distributed to the winners of the Innovative Ideas in Renewable Energy and Environment Competition, which was carried out in collaboration with Engineers Without Borders Milan.
Last but not least, the speech of MP Cesar Abi Khalil, in which he stressed on the importance of this project and the importance of green energy and sustainable development and how this model should be generalized to all Lebanese regions and create a green energy culture for all citizens. Finally, Dr. Al-Assad’s speech stressed the importance of cooperation between the public and private sectors and the initiatives of associations to help the state.
The Don Bosco Cultural Center will continue to achieve its goals of connecting people, training and protecting nature for a better future.
