Beirut, Lebanon, 03 February 2021: Oracle has collaborated with Lebanon-based NGOs International Education Association (IEA) and the Mouna Bustros Foundation (FMB) for the Coder-Maker Initiative, a program that aims to train Lebanese youth with training in computer coding. The initiative, which is supported by Oracle Academy, will provide schools in Lebanon with training, education programs and other online resources that will help students gain the skills they need for the future of work.
The Coder-Maker program provides students with foundational knowledge in programming, designing, making, assembling and programming in real life STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths) applications and an understanding of open architecture hardware. The three-year program aims to engage up to 2,300 schools, starting with a pilot phase of 100 schools and 20 universities.
“We decided to work with Oracle Academy, as we share common vision, and there is no doubt about its technology prowess and training resources”, said Nayla Bustros at Mouna Bustros Foundation (FMB). “The current need for online delivery of educational content, governments and education stakeholders is a major force that drove us to support building a brighter future for education in Lebanon,”
“After having assessed the Oracle Academy curriculum, we were pleased to confirm that the academy’s resources are fit for an ideal educational landscape that can instil the knowledge required for Lebanese youth to prepare for the demands of the future.” said Eliane Metni at International Education Association (IEA). “The partnership with Oracle Academy is an excellent opportunity for Lebanese schools to benefit from the trainings and resources for teachers and students alike.”
The agreement between FMB, IEA, and Oracle Academy includes ‘train the trainer’ with 30 educators and volunteers participating in the Coder-Maker Initiative who will receive additional training to enable them to train additional faculty identified by the Coder-Maker team. The educators will be supported with virtual/online events planned in 2020-2021, with other events to be planned following the initial pilot.
“We are thrilled to support IEA and FMB; two leading NGOs with a vision and a plan aimed at enhancing the academic infrastructure in Lebanon,” said Rabih Elias, Country Leader – Lebanon, Oracle. “We look forward to developing a sustainable and scalable education program with the Coder-Maker initiative in schools and universities in Lebanon, which will help to provide young Lebanese people with the advanced skills and abilities that will prepare them for future employment opportunities.”
Through this strategic partnership, Oracle will help FMB and IEA enable Lebanese schools with advanced curricula and information designed to meet the future of work. The topics that will be covered include Java Programming; Database Design and Programming; Workshops, projects and labs; and Oracle Academy Education Bytes.
