The American University of Beirut (AUB) is proud to announce the launch of two merit-based full tuition support scholarships that recognize and support highly distinguished athletes who excel in both academic and athletic pursuits. The scholarships are considered the highest form of athletic recognition at the American University of Beirut. The new President’s Athletic Scholarship and the Distinguished Athlete Scholarship will be awarded to up to three outstanding athletes per year, covering the full cost of their tuition for up to four years of undergraduate or graduate study at AUB.
“These two athletic scholarships were designed to allow top athletes to join AUB and to help them grow athletically and academically. At AUB, they will be able to develop their skills, explore their strengths, achieve their passions, build an unforgettable life path, and be part of a community for life,” said AUB Dean of Student Affairs Nayla Al-Akl.
One Distinguished Athlete Scholarship will be awarded to a talented student athlete who has made outstanding contributions to their sport and can show athletic potential. As for applicants who can demonstrate outstanding athletic achievements and potential, as well as strong academic standing and excellent leadership characteristics; they are encouraged to apply for the President’s Athletic Scholarship, which will be awarded to up to two scholar-athletes per year. Prospective students are asked to submit applications for both AUB as well as the scholarships, as applicants will need to be accepted to AUB to become eligible for consideration for the scholarships. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for tryouts and interviews. The scholarships selection committee consists of representatives from AUB’s Office of Student Affairs, the Athletics Department, and other relevant academic departments and administrative units.
“We encourage all top athletes, locally and internationally, in individual or team sports, to apply to our merit-based athletic scholarships. We believe that athletics is core to university life and plays a key role in advancing our educational mission. We look forward to welcoming our new athletes and to building a growing student body of diverse skills and strengths. May young athletes have the opportunity to pursue their passion and gain a fulfilling learning experience at AUB” said Dean Al-Akl.
