Contemporary Lebanese artist Hiba Jaroudi presented her digital drawings that include images combining Lebanon’s collective memory, its present and future, designed digitally in an artistic way at the Lebanese Pavilion at “Expo Dubai 2020”, as part of a Lebanese day entitled “Sensual Mood” organized by “Lebanese Signature” seeking to support Lebanese talents. The celebration focused on the five senses through the beauty of vision, the splendor of taste and the warmth of music and included a tasting ceremony of the finest Lebanese wines and a display of “Mouneh” from the earth’s bounties, including thyme from “The Good Thymes”, oil from “Darmess Olive Oil”, etc. It is worth noting that this event was attended by several social and media personalities and “Lebanese Signature” offered a roundtrip travel ticket to Beirut in order to give the chance to one lucky winner to live the “Wine Route”.
Through her digital drawings, Hiba seeks to restructure people’s collective memory, to artistically show societies and cultures, and preserve the Lebanese heritage. With her drawings full of vibrant vivid colors, she gets her inspiration from the old Lebanese images that symbolize the beautiful Lebanon of yesterday and the nostalgia for the past, and combines them with a symbolic imaginary painting that she sees with eyes from the present and the future, “In every layer of every painting or piece of art, there is a magical story from the past.”
Hiba says: “We live in a time of speed and we strive to preserve the charm and warmth of our societies, as well as to communicate with the Lebanese communities around the world through artistic work in order to preserve our culture and translate it to this new generation who loves everything digital; for this reason, it is very important to involve them in our heritage, history and art to revive the society: it is our Lebanon, it is our Culture, our Heritage and our History.”
She added: “Art is my tool, it’s my language, and art allows people from different cultures and times to communicate with each other. Personally, I see life as a great painting, I put a touch of art and creativity everywhere I go, and I work to highlight the beauty of the place to preserve communities, revive heritage and emphasize it from its artistic perspective using black and white photos from the past; digital art is used to build an artistic happy story.”
It is noteworthy that Hiba Jaroudi is a Lebanese contemporary artist who studied graphic design and turned towards artistic creativity after she reached a stage where she wanted to be more honest with the gift God gave to her, which is “creativity”. So, she started working on her own project, which is digital painting. She has an international experience for more than 20 years in the Middle East, the Gulf and the United States in the fields of art, design, advertising and marketing. Her work has been described as an abundance of inspirational work focused on restructuring the Lebanese collective memory.
As for the “Lebanese Signature” co-founded by Mila Medawar and Joyce Mouawad, it is a limited liability company and a platform created to empower creative Lebanese people, recognize their talents all around the world and help them create new jobs. It also aims to support the Lebanese economy by marketing Lebanese goods of all kinds.
