Dubai, UAE – 6 May 2026 In a city built on ambition and reinvention, Ric Banks’ story stands out as a powerful example of resilience and determination. Today, he is the founder of one of the Middle East’s largest Latin dance academies; but his journey began with loss and uncertainty.
Banks moved to Dubai in 2012, where he faced a major setback after a business partner disappeared with his savings. Instead of giving up, he chose to start over. With limited resources, he relocated to Ajman and focused on his passion for dance.
He began teaching Salsa, Bachata, and Kizomba through private home sessions, charging minimal fees just to sustain himself. Eventually, he rented a small studio; barely enough for a few students and without air conditioning; where he personally brought fans to make classes bearable.
From these modest beginnings, Banks slowly built a loyal community. His teaching style; structured, energetic, and welcoming, drew people not just to learn dance, but to connect, socialize, and experience a vibrant culture.
In 2014, he officially registered his company and secured his first long-term studio. That milestone marked the start of significant growth.
Today, Ric Banks Dance Academy (RBDA) has grown into a 15,000 sq ft facility and is considered the largest Latin dance academy in the Middle East and Asia. The academy offers classes in Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, and Rueda de Casino, along with other dance styles like Zumba, Hip-Hop, and Reggaeton. It also hosts regular events and social dance nights across Dubai.
Beyond its size, RBDA is known for its inclusive atmosphere, professional instruction, and accessible pricing through regular offers and discounts.
Ric Banks’ journey is ultimately a story of perseverance, passion, and integrity; proof that success is built through consistency and hard work, not shortcuts.
“Our mission is to create an authentic, energetic, and welcoming dance experience,” says Ric Banks, Founder and Owner of Ric Banks Academy. He then added “Whether you’re a beginner or advanced, we aim to make learning fun and meaningful.”
From starting over with nothing to building a thriving dance community, Ric Banks continues to inspire; one step at a time.
