Gibran Khalil Gibran once said : “”If Lebanon were not my country, I would have chosen Lebanon for Homeland”, and I would do the same.
Paradise on earth… unfortunately, not anymore… our streets, our sea, our valleys, turned into a garbage dump, literally.
The sculpture “Black pearl” is not what I dreamt of doing when I was younger.
Even though an artist aspires to carry his vision beyond borders, he cannot deny his emotions, nor can he be disconnected from his surrounding. I wish I can ignore all the things that are distorting the beautiful image of our beloved country, but I cannot. I cannot ignore the future of my kids, nor the heritage of my ancestors. I want to wake up in the morning and be able to look at the mirror with dignity.
“The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.” Albert Einstein
“Black Pearl” is not simply a sculpture to be exhibited in a public place, but rather a SHOUT against corruption, a CALL for those who truly believe that we still deserve to have a beautiful country such as Lebanon.
