For the 6th year in a row, SGBL sponsors the “Francophonie” month 2016, in partnership with the French Embassy and the French Institute of Lebanon.
The “Francophonie” month, which has become an annual event celebrating the French language, entitled this year « Le français en musique », was launched on Friday February 26, 2016 at the « Espace des Lettres » of the French Institute of Lebanon in the presence of the French ambassador in Lebanon, Emmanuel Bonne, Minister of Culture, Raymond Araygi, the ambassadors of francophone countries as well as the “Francophonie” friends. Actress Clotilde Courau, accompanied by the oud player Ziad Al Ahmadieh, inaugurated the festivities at Theatre Montaigne with a musical reading of the “O nuit, ô mes yeux,” a text by Lamia Ziadé.
During the opening ceremony, Philippe Dubois, Deputy CEO of SGBL, stated: “We are proud to support the “Francophonie” that has always occupied an important place at SGBL (…). SGBL is a historical partner of the French Embassy and the French institutions in Lebanon, and through its cultural sponsoring activities, the bank aims to encourage the “Francophone” artistic quality initiatives, confirming its commitment to promote intercultural dialogue for which the French language, through its values and the culture it conveys, plays a key role in Lebanon.
The “Francophonie Month” will be held throughout March with many activities scheduled on this occasion.
