Short training courses in construction with recognized certificates are available for people in need aged 18 and over at the Boarding Training Center (BTC) in Zouk Mosbeh; training and transportation expenses covered.
EU-financed project “Vocational and Technical Education for all in Lebanon” (VTE4all), in collaboration with the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK), offers a series of 2 week-long training courses in the construction sector, at its Boarding Training Center in Zouk Mosbeh.
People from different nationalities living in Lebanon can apply to learn in-demand skills that can help them find a job and build their future. Participants can choose from multiple specializations, such as repairing indoor walls, floor screeding, tiling, installing sanitary fixtures, steel fixing, etc. No previous education or work experience is required.
During the first week, participants acquire knowledge and practical skills in the chosen specialization, while in the second week, they practice them on the job by renovating the training center facilities. In the evening, they attend 2-hour Life Skills sessions on topics like safety and support, effective time management, conflict resolution, non-verbal communication, etc.
At the end of the training course, the international certification organization APAVE assesses participants’ skills and issues recognized certificates to the successful trainees.
To date, 24 participants have been already trained and certified in the specialization “Repairing indoor walls”. Lebanese, Syrian and Palestinian men were studying and practicing together, shoulder by shoulder. One of them was working for more than 20 years in a construction company and remained unemployed. On the first day of the training, he became emotional: “I wanted just a letter from my employer to prove my skills, so I could find another job, but I have never got it. Now I can learn and get a certificate.”
The training courses are held at the VTE4all Boarding Training Center located in an old building of Marché du Pont Supermarket in Zouk Mosbeh. Before starting the course, participants make PCR tests and get accommodated in a nearby hotel. Transportation and food are provided.
