Beirut, 31 May 2017 (United Nations Information Center)– Lebanon Eco Movement and its affiliated associations and the Golf Club of Lebanon join the United Nations Information Centre in Beirut (UNIC Beirut) and United Nations Environment (UNEP) to celebrate World Environment Day in a gathering on Monday, 5 June 2017, at 6:45 pm, at the Golf Club in Jnah, Beirut.
The event features the lighting of a part of the golf club in green, in line with UNEP’s campaign to highlight natural and touristic attractions around the world to mark the Day. President of Lebanon Eco Movement Paul Abi Rached, Director of UNIC Beirut Margo El-Helou, and member of the Board of Directors and the Public Relations Committee of the Golf Club Lina Nasser Shawqi will speak at the event. The event will also honor a number of environmental activists who were role models in national environmental action.
The gathering will be followed by an Iftar.

The United Nations celebrates World Environment Day on 5 June every year since 1972. It is the United Nations’ most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. The theme of this year is “Connecting People to Nature”, which aims to encourage people to enjoy and protect nature, and appreciate its beauty and importance in the sustainability of the planet.
