The play “The Kingdom of Music”, a project funded by the European Union, was launched at THEATRE athénée in the presence of Dr. Alexis Loeber, Head of the Cooperation Section at the Delegation of the European Union, Rania Frem El-Khoury, Director of the Georges N. Frem Foundation, ambassadors, officials, the media and children from different regions in Lebanon.
The performance included dances and songs in different languages that reflect the influence of the exchange between people from different Euro-Mediterranean cultures and backgrounds. It promotes the importance of tolerance, respect and dialogue.
The audience was transported with the actors to several EU countries and was exposed to European cultural diversity, traditions and life styles while learning about their values such as freedom, human rights, equality, justice and solidarity.
“The European Union has funded this project to help provide a stage for young people to engage together in cultural and artistic expressions,” said Dr. Alexis Loeber. He added: “Creating bonds among you, the young people of Lebanon is fundamental because you are together the future of this country.”
“We should value children’s theater and take it seriously because it gives them the skills and the creativity needed to face the world, to understand it and perhaps to change it too” said Rania Frem El-Khoury.
The objective of the play is to enable children to understand that tolerance and appreciation of cultural and individual differences are crucial, particularly in an increasingly interconnected world in need of greater solidarity. The children will be encouraged to develop friendships with other Euro-Mediterranean people and better share cultural richness while maintaining respect for each other’s cultures.
The play is addressed to children aged 6 to 14 coming from different regions in Lebanon.
“The Kingdom of Music” runs until June 30, 2017 at THEATRE athénée.
