Beirut, Lebanon: March 2018 – In line with its commitment to support local initiatives, Careem the region’s leading app-based car booking service, is collaborating with Lebanese American University (LAU) in Lebanon’s first-ever university-hosted case competition taking place April 21-22. Case competitions bring together business leaders and untapped talent, providing an opportunity for aspiring professionals to demonstrate their skills and engage with industry leaders.
During the two-day competition open to undergraduate students only, teams will compete to solve real-life business cases that demand innovative and creative solutions. Representatives from Careem and three other major companies will judge results. At the end of the event, winners will be considered for internship opportunities with the companies represented at the event. All teams will benefit from unique networking and reputation-building opportunities from their participation in the LAU Case Competition.
“From our very first days as a startup, Careem has made a conscious effort to create a dynamic workplace culture that celebrates creativity, diversity and out-of-the-box thinking to empower the most dynamic talent pool from the region and beyond,” said Ibrahim Manna, Managing Director at Careem Emerging Markets. “Partnering with LAU to help support our future leaders’ creative problem-solving skills, understanding of corporate literacy, and dreams of becoming entrepreneurs themselves aligns with our own commitment to positively and meaningfully impacting the communities in which we operate. Undergraduate students, we look forward to seeing what you can do!”
The LAU Case Competition includes a total of five stages. Stage 1 is the application, due between March 1 -30, 2018. Simply fill out a quick application online at https://casecompetition.lau.edu.lb/ to enroll your team. The competition is only for undergraduate students, teams can only have four members, not more or fewer, and a team may be made up of members from different universities.
Stage 2 is the sample case, where upon application every team will receive a sample case to solve within seven days. The team must submit their solution to the sample case as a 10-slide PowerPoint presentation. This case will be reviewed and graded by a committee of LAU instructors. To ensure objectivity, the committee will have no knowledge of the teams or their members’ identities.
In Stage 3, the committee members will evaluate the submitted presentations on relevance, practicality and creativity. They will select teams eligible to participate by April 7, 2018. In Stage 4, accepted teams will be invited to a consultancy workshop taking place in April in preparation for the competition. Attendance is expected from all participants. Stage 5 is the competition itself held on April 21 and 22. Accepted teams are expected to attend both days and complete all cases.
Students from all universities and fields of study can take part in this first-of-its-kind event in Lebanon. The identity of team members, their universities and the cases they are solving are kept confidential throughout the process. Judges are not privy to any information about participants. A working knowledge of English is required. Participation is free of charge.
