Beirut, August 2020 – In the aftermath of the apocalyptic calamity that struck Beirut, Tamanna, an NGO created in 2005 with the sole purpose of fulfilling the wishes of children suffering from life-threatening illnesses, decided to add to their mission during these times, and help those most hit by the blast by restoring their homes. The focus of the support will mainly target those who cannot afford to rebuild everything that was lost, the most vulnerable such as families with children, elderlies, the ill and the physically-challenged. As of today, all the Tamanna teams are mobilized on the ground to assess the damages, talk to the victims and start restoring.
Soraya Barbir, Executive Director of Tamanna said: “We felt compelled and had only one choice after we saw what happened, and it was to use all of our efforts, contacts and teams to help those in need to restore their destroyed homes. The misery reached every home, and it is our duty to be there for as many beirutis as possible. Till date we have restored and delivered 4 homes and one store”. To add: “We have now taken on a full building directly facing depot number 12 that has sustained heavy damages and 2 other apartments of elderly persons, but we are in desperate need of funds to continue our work before the winter months are upon us. The devastation and suffering are unbelievable and today we cannot stand on our feet without the help of the local, regional and international community”.
Tamanna is supporting people in any way possible, if they need food they are provided with coupons to purchase at the coop, and if they need therapy of any sort, medication, diapers, milk, and more, tamanna coordinates with other NGOs and makes sure people are being taken care of.
With over 200 people killed, over 6,000 injured some of whom are still in intensive care and over 300,000 whose homes were damaged, we all need to stand together in these times and help.
