“Every cloud has a silver lining”, and despite all the current challenges and obstacles, April has been an unprecedented month that has given our team some hope, which is desperately needed to continue the fight. With the constant awareness campaigns, the last three weeks have been unmatched in terms of adoption with 38 dogs who said goodbye to the shelter as they headed home, and most of them were adopted by individuals and families who have other pets but lacked time to train the new dog and integrate him/her into their human and furry family, before lockdown. Many people are also taking advantage of the confinement to foster dogs and cats, and mainly help them regain confidence and recover, as many of the fostered pets were either abused on the street, or underwent operations after being severely injured at the time of their rescue. However, with the catastrophic collapse of the Lebanese Pound and violent clashes erupting, our country is plunging into the unknown, and with the high unemployment rate that is constantly increasing and the breakdown of the economy resulting in very low wages and families’ inability to buy basic needs such as food, the wave of abandonment continues, resulting in more vulnerable animals unable to fend for themselves on the street, thus, a constantly increasing number of animals entering our shelters. Moreover, with most items being rationed, it is getting harder to provide the animals’ basic needs, and even harder with traders demanding to be paid in advance in order to deliver goods to us.It is your support that has kept us going, and it is only through your help that the fight to help the animals continues. It is your kind donations that provide the animals’ basic needs, and while no amount is too small, even five dollars go a long way with the current hyperinflation. Please help us continue our mission, and CONTRIBUTE to our efforts to help the voiceless: https://betalebanon.org/get-involved/donate The BETA team, |
