PR and marketing specialist, thinkPR, and Aberdeen businessman Scott Macpherson, is celebrating the success of its joint fundraiser after raising over £25,000 for two cancer charities.
The golf and dinner event was held at Meldrum House Hotel in memory of Scott’s late wife, Carole, who tragically lost her life to Secondary Breast Cancer (SBC) in July 2020 amidst the height of Covid regulations. The event raised both awareness and funds for two SBC charities, Met Up Uk and Make 2nds CountThe event welcome 28 golfers during the day and 160 guests in the evening to support the two worthy causes.
Commenting on their involvement, thinkPR CEO Annabel Sall said “We were extremely proud to support the event. I first met Scott when I was in Dubai on business and supported his business with marketing so when heapproached us last year with his story, although tragic, it was something we could all relate to – without question, we agreed to give our voluntary support. We created the brand and coordinated the event management of the day and evening events, and we are blown away by the generosity and success of the event.”
Scott Macpherson commented: “Carole was the life and soul, and she was such a caring and giving person. With only 20 of her closest friends and family permitted to attend her funeral, due to Covid restrictions, I wanted to do something in her honour that she would have loved, because she loved a party and loved people coming together. “
Both Met Up UK and Make 2nds Count have said they are honoured to have been chosen to benefit from the Carole Macpherson Memorial Fundraiser as the funds raised will allow them to continue supporting many more families impacted by SBC.
Lisa Fleming, founder of Make 2nds Count, said: “Carole’s story resonates with all of us at Make 2nds Count as another beautiful woman is taken too soon by the cruel reality of this disease.
“We are thankful to have been chosen to benefit from this inspirational event which will allow us to support more people living with the same devastating diagnosis that Carole received – and provide hope that we can do something positive for patients through helping to finance research into secondary breast cancer.”
Founder of Met Up Uk, Jo Taylor, who spoke at the event: “I was honoured to be invited to attend the Carole Macpherson Memorial Fundraiser in honour of such a beautiful and kind woman and to shed some light on why as the only patient advocacy group in the UK, we campaign so strongly for SBC patients.”
“Every day 31 women lose their lives to SBC. At Met Up Uk, one of our aims is to help spread awareness of the disease in the hopes that the red flag signs and symptoms are spotted to ensure early diagnosis.”
Held at Meldrum House on May 19, the black-tie event was kicked-off by a 9-hole round of golf, followed by a dinner and auction supported by Auction Direct with charity Auctioneer, Alex Fleming, as the evening’s keynote speaker and ended with around £25,000 being raised on the night.
