Beirut, 25th of January 2021: In the frenetic battle to find cures and treatments to heal patients with COVID19 and all the medical complications that can result from this virus, a team of doctors and residents from LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital are currently working on a new protocol to specifically treat endothelial dysfunction that can be caused by the virus.
The Endothelial dysfunction is a type of non-obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) in which there are no heart artery blockages, but the large blood vessels on the heart’s surface constrict (narrow) instead of dilating (opening).
This condition causes chronic chest pain and can lead to more severe consequences, since more and more evidence about COVID-19 infection has proven that one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality is the endothelial dysfunction caused by the virus.
As a result anticoagulation and steroids medications became part of the standard therapies for the disease.
However, and till date, there’s non randomized controlled trial that has evaluated the remaining mechanisms such as vasoconstriction for example which is the narrowing of the blood vessels resulting from contraction of the muscular wall of the vessels, in particular the large arteries and small arterioles.
LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital research team has concluded that a protocol composed of a combination of several medications helps in improving the Endothelial function in COVID-19 patients and intends to cooperate with European Society of Cardiology and corroborate its findings.
LAU Medical Center–Rizk Hospital continues its quest and drive through its committed Advanced Research and excellence in medicine to find solutions, cures and remedies to fulfill its promise of healing with compassion.
