BEIRUT, Lebanon, March, 2020 – Ford’s distributor in Lebanon, A.N. Boukather, has donated a Ford Escape and LBP50 million to the Red Cross in Lebanon to combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
The Escape will be used to transport aid workers, medical staff and equipment to areas most affected by the virus, while the cash donation will be put towards hazmat suits and other supplies crucial in transporting and treating affected patients.
“The Red Cross has really gone above and beyond the call of duty since the pandemic started to help people,” said Anthony Boukather, CEO of A.N. Boukather Holding. “Lebanon was already in the grips of an economic crisis, and the Red Cross is in urgent need of cash donations to help.”
“While we’re committing to social distancing to stay safe, these soldiers cannot simply stay home like the rest of us. They’ve always had our back and it’s time we had theirs,” he added.
Cash donations will also be used to help fund patient transfers to hospital. Transporting a COVID-19 patient to hospital costs as much as LBP1.3 million in fees for transport, staffing and post transportation hygiene measures.
“They are in urgent need of our support to keep doing all the amazing work that they’re doing. The Lebanese Red Cross is an amazing organisation that is staffed by incredible people who are putting their lives on the line to help others. We’re proud to be supporting their work,” Mr Boukather concluded.
The new Escape was handed over to the Red Cross last week and has already been pressed into action.
